"Astres noirs is the debut book for both Katrin Koenning and Sarker Protick, artists who live thousands of miles apart whose peculiar photographic wanderings create a hauntingly beautiful dialogue. This book presents photographs taken on mobile phone cameras, devices used to capture their everyday in an impulsive and almost obsessional way, documenting life from their doorsteps to far afield. Their photographs capture the commonplace such as water stains on asphalt, dust clouds and rays of light, and transform these into mesmerising frames &#x; elusive fragments that evoke an imaginary creature, a milky way, a phosphorescent silhouette&#x; Presented together, their combined voices lead us on a journey into unexplored territory, somewhere between the everyday and paranormal, between night and day. Amongst enveloping darkness, lightness is revealed, dazzling and miraculously caught by discerning eyes."--Publisher's description, from website http://www.dalpine.com/en/book/astres-noirs, viewed on July 28, 2016.

This photographic series by Daniela Comani, is an excursus into perception as it relates to the media. With painstaking precision she probes that ever-present device for the reproduction of moving images, the television set, but in off mode: turned off, TV sets seem dead, they become cold objects ? and yet concomitantly they serve as surfaces for viewers to project their own fantasies and fears on. Even when the picture is extinguished, the TV is still not bereft of content, for the dark screen reflects the room and the people and objects in it.

"Part memoir and part fiction. 'Got To Go' presents a collection of potographs from across Rosalind Fox Solomon's life, contrasting a narrative of her own early years with other, urgent images that reveal a wider vision of the world, one outside of the rigid boundaries imposed by society and the home. If biography is a net cast upon us by family and shaped by social coces, Fox Solomon lays bare the limits of the net, as she negotiates the cusp between lived life and her imagination. Describing the work as a 'tragicomedy', full of both humor and pathos, Fox Solomon probes those limits we impose on the self, not only soical codes but also the inherited tenets which are so difficult to escape."

Photographs taken by Ari Marcopoulos in Rome (February - March 2016), and Malibu (August 2016). With a text contribution by Kara Walker. "Rome. (...) Here, no image or structure is complete without symbolic framing devices, which also require framing devices, and so on. Ad infinitum. Malibu. Rockstars and fallen rocks and the edge, here is where the European conquest of the New World meets its fountain of youth endgame. We have reached the end, and it is vast."

In this new body of work, Beyond Maps and Atlases, Bertien van Manen turns to Ireland. Van Manen says, ‘At first, working in Ireland I wasn’t sure what I was looking for. My husband had died. I dispensed with the people and reflected on the atmosphere. I was guided by a feeling and a search, a longing for some kind of meaning in a place of myths and legends. There was mystery and endlessness at the edge of a land beyond which is nothing but a vast expanse.’00Where can it be found again,0An elswhere world, beyond0Maps and atlases,0Where all is woven into0And of itself, like a nest0Of crosshatched grass blades? 0Seamus Heaney00Van Manen rolled into photography almost by accident, taking pictures of her children with an old camera. As her work became more public she was soon drafted into the world of fashion photography. In 1977 she tired of the industry, and on discovering the documentary photography of Robert Frank and Josef Koudelka, van Manen began to explore the developing relationship between herself and her subjects, keeping a closeness and developing a personal, organic style of photography. Recent works include Easter and Oak Trees (MACK, 2013) and Moonshine (MACK, 2014)00.
